Now that's a little creepy

My 27 year old patient having her 3rd baby in 2 1/2 years with a 3rd baby daddy was a little bit WT. Baby daddy was just barely 18, and his huge obese dad with his 25 year old anorexic girlfriend came to visit. After the baby was born, baby daddy's pa gave the new baby mama a big ole smooch right on the lips...... eeewwwww.

Baby catcher

I caught my first baby the other day! My shift had just begun and I yet to get report, my pt called out saying that she had to push, I ran into the room, mommy is pushing, I call the Charge Nurse, she calls the OB then joins me in the room along with the nursing assistant and baby nurse. We hold her hand, breathe with her and let her body do its job! What a beautiful miracle! There was a cord wrapped TIGHTLY around the baby's neck, and the baby was unable to be delivered through it, and it was not loose enough to be brought over baby's head, so the cord did need to be cut at the perineum, but other than that... I wish ALL deliveries could be so beautiful! I much prefer the natural, carnal, organic birth experience to those with (unneeded) intervention.

Should this be filed under sexual harassment?

We recently got a new Secretary on our unit. She had never witnessed a C/Section before, so I invited her to join me in the OR to observe. She gowned up and was standing in her place at the end of the table quietly watching. Mom had been prepped and was ready for delivery. In walks very cocky Doctor and notices new Secretary. These are the exact words that spewed from his mouth "Well, well, well, now who is THIS cute young thing in my OR?" I felt that it was highly inappropriate and it embarrassed our Secretary quite thoroughly. Granted she IS very young, and is extremely CUTE!! But, really? Here you are getting ready to slice someones baby out of their belly and all you can think of is the visitor in the room? Craziness!

Why did YOU want a baby?

There are several reasons for having a baby, and as a L&D nurse, I have heard it all. My favorite reason as of late is because "It gives me HUGE knockers, and my 'Johns' love them! Plus I make more money when I have milk". Nice, eh? Poor baby is now in state custody along with her 3 older siblings who were also addicted to meth at birth.

Flying placentas

Have you ever witnessed a flying placenta? I have. Patient had just delivered a baby girl covered in mec, so Doc steps to the table to change gloves for repair. All at once the placenta literally flies out and splats on the floor!! Blood everywhere, the Doc, Me, walls, couch, even poor Grammy's purse ewwwwww. Thank heavens for shoe covers and hospital issued scrubs.
